The scientific name for Red Sandalwood is Pterocarpus santalinus, is a species of Pterocarpus native to India. The climatic conditions of South India suit the most for its growth, and was the leading supplier for the rest of the world, when compared to the other 6 countries which grows Red Sandalwood. Due to depletion of the natural resources in the forest, India had to import Red Sandalwood from other countries. Due to this the Indian Government has lifted the ban on cultivation of Red Sandalwood and started giving permissions to individuals as well to corporate from the year 2008.
